Yi Sun-sin Square이순신광장

Yi Sun-sin Square in Jungang-dong honors the admiral who led Korea to victory in the Imjin War of the 1590s, with displays on Yi and on the volunteer fighters of the time. Its centerpiece is a turtle ship replica built close to the original, open inside so you can see recreated scenes of the crew at work and try a few simple activities. It stands on the site of the Jeolla Left Naval Command's shipyard, one of three places that each built a turtle ship during the war, and a mural on one side tells the story of Yi's life and the war. The square is also the starting point of a heritage route to nearby sites such as Jinnamgwan.
