Uirimji is an irrigation reservoir traditionally dated to the Samhan period, and it is counted with Byeokgolje in Gimje and Susanje in Miryang among the waterworks surviving from that time. One story credits Ureuk, the Silla-era musician, with first damming the stream, and another a later magistrate, Park Ui-rim, with rebuilding the bank more solidly. Today a 1.8 km shoreline loop takes you under centuries-old pines (the grove known as Jerim) and willows, past the Yeonghojeong pavilion of 1807, the Gyeongho-ru pavilion of 1948 and a 30 m natural waterfall. Chungcheong's old name, Hoseo, 'west of the lake,' is often said to refer to this reservoir.
