Booking
You visit the tunnel as part of a DMZ tour: Paju City's DMZ Peace Tour, or one of the DMZ day tours from Seoul sold on GetYourGuide, Klook and KKday.
On September 5, 1974, a North Korean defector named Kim Bu-seong told the South that he had worked as a surveyor on a tunnel under the DMZ. The search turned up nothing for years, until June 10, 1978, when a blast sent water shooting up a test borehole and the third tunnel was found. It is 1,635 m long and about 2 m high and 2 m wide, big enough to move an estimated 30,000 troops an hour, and it lies 12 km from Munsan and 52 km from Seoul. A monorail lets visitors reach the tunnel without walking all the way down, and a DMZ theater on site screens a 3D film about the division and the DMZ's natural environment.
