Samseonghyeol, a national historic site in Jeju City, is where the founders of Tamna, Jeju's ancient kingdom, are honored. Legend says three demigods, Go-eulla, Yang-eulla and Bu-eulla, emerged together from the ground here, lived by hunting, and took up farming after marrying three princesses who arrived with cattle, horses and grain seeds. The three holes sit in a grove of centuries-old trees, and it is said that neither rain nor snow ever gathers in them. Rites have been held here since 1526 and still take place every April 10, October 10 and December 10.
