Booking

GetYourGuide sells a Yi Sun-sin history day tour from Seoul that ends with a soak in the Onyang hot springs.

Records of Onyang's springs reach back some 1,300 years, and the water has been used for bathing for about 600; KTO calls it the oldest hot spring on record in Korea. Joseon kings from Sejong to Jeongjo built a royal retreat here and came to rest or seek a cure. The water rises at around 57°C and is mildly alkaline, and today roughly 120 lodgings and bathhouses cluster in the district. Two relics recall the royal visits: the Sinjeongbi stele, put up under King Sejo to mark a new spring, and Yeonggoedae, which marks where Crown Prince Sado practiced martial arts.
