GetYourGuide sells a Yi Sun-sin history day tour from Seoul centered on Hyeonchungsa, and Klook sells an Oeam Folk Village and Onyang Folk Museum day tour that ends here.
Hyeonchungsa honors Admiral Yi Sun-sin, the hero who saved Korea during the Japanese invasions of the 1590s. A shrine first went up here in 1706; a citizens' society rebuilt it in 1932, and from 1966 to 1974 the government turned the area into a national memorial site. The shrine keeps the admiral's portrait and a series of ten paintings of his life, and relics including his War Diary (Nanjung Ilgi, a National Treasure) and long swords are kept here. The Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin Memorial Museum explains the naval war, and you can also see the house where he lived, his archery ground and a memorial gate.
