Marado is a low, grassy island off Jeju's south coast, gentle enough to stroll around in an hour or two. Most people head first for the stone marker at its southern tip, the classic photo stop. On the highest ground stands the Marado Lighthouse, marked on nautical charts worldwide, with models of famous lighthouses from other countries around it. The east side drops away in cliffs shaped by the sea wind, the west coast is cut with sea caves, and in autumn silver grass covers the island. Look also for Bonhyangdang, a ring of stone walls around an altar to the spirit that watches over the island's women divers.
