Booking
Klook sells a Gongju day tour from Seoul with a light-aircraft experience and a 2-day Gongju & Sejong UNESCO tour. On GetYourGuide, Gongsanseong is one stop on a 3-day and a 5-day tour of Korea from Seoul.
Gongsanseong crowns a ridge above the Geumgang River in Gongju and guarded Ungjin, Baekje's capital from 475 to 538. The first walls were packed earth following the ridgelines and a valley; the stone walls you walk today come from rebuilding under the Joseon kings Seonjo and Injo. Inside are old gate sites, the Ssangsujeong pavilion, Yeongeunsa temple and the site of a Joseon army post, layers that show the fortress stayed in use long after Baekje. It is one of the Baekje Historic Areas on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Tips
- The combined ticket costs the same as two single tickets and adds Seokjangni Museum, so buy it here if you are also going to the Royal Tombs.
- During the Baekje Cultural Festival a floating bridge crosses the river from the fortress to Geumgang Sinkwan Park, and that park is also where to see the walls lit up at night.
- At Geumseoru, the west gate, look out for the reenacted Ungjin gate-guard changing ceremony.
