The KPOP Dictionary: 500 Essential Korean Slang Words and Phrases (paperback)
What it is
엔믹스하다 turns the name of JYP girl group NMIXX into a verb (하다 = “to do”). It describes a sudden flip: weather that swings between hot and rainy, someone who changes their attitude in a second, or a mood or relationship that ends without warning.
It comes from NMIXX’s “MIXX POP” style, which fuses two or more genres in one song so the track can jump somewhere completely different partway through. Trend A Word explains that the switch feels like two songs mixed into one, and shouting “엔믹스~!” at those moments became the meme.
Why it’s trending
Trend A Word, a Korean newsletter that tracks new words, made 엔믹스하다 Question 1 of its 2026 slang test, which more than 20,000 people took. It had already covered the word in July under the headline 엔믹스해버렸다 (“it totally NMIXX-ed”).
NMIXX are in the spotlight again this week with their sixth mini album ‘Strange Muse’, out October 19.
How to use it
날씨가 완전 엔믹스했어. 아까는 덥더니 갑자기 비 와. Nalssiga wanjeon enmikseuhaesseo. Akkaneun deopdeoni gapjagi bi wa. “The weather totally NMIXX-ed. It was hot a minute ago and now it’s suddenly raining.” (casual)
어제 남자친구한테 엔믹스해 버렸어. Eoje namjachinguhante enmikseuhae beoryeosseo. “I pulled a sudden 180 on my boyfriend yesterday.” (casual)
태세 전환이 거의 엔믹스급이네요. Taese jeonhwani geoui enmikseugeubineyo. “That change of stance is practically NMIXX-level.” (polite)
It’s fan-born slang for friends, group chats and social media. You can soften it with -요 (엔믹스했어요), but don’t use it in formal writing. Similar expressions: 태세 전환 (taese jeonhwan, “switching stance”), 180도 바뀌다 (“to turn 180 degrees”) and 손바닥 뒤집듯 (“like flipping your palm,” changing your mind easily).
