Booking

KKday sells day tours from Seoul to Woljeongsa, including a temple-stay style day and an autumn-foliage tour of Odaesan National Park.

Woljeongsa was founded in 643 by the monk Jajang on Odaesan, a mountain held sacred as a whole in Korean Buddhism. Today it is the head temple of the Jogye Order's 4th district, with more than 60 temples under it, and its treasures include an octagonal nine-story stone pagoda (a National Treasure) and a seated stone bodhisattva. For many visitors the approach is the highlight: about 1 km of path from the Iljumun gate to Geumganggyo Bridge runs through a forest of more than 1,700 fir trees, lovely in every season. The temple also offers templestays, in a relaxing and a program-based version, and runs the Odaesan Meditation Village.
