Winter tours from Seoul are on Klook and KKday: guided snow-flower day hikes (a Taebaeksan sunrise climb or the Seonjaryeong snow trail, with sledding and local meals on the KKday version) and Klook's train tour to the Taebaeksan Snow Festival and Hwangji Pond.
Taebaeksan has long been revered as a sacred mountain. On Yeongbong (1,560 m), its central peak, stands Cheonjedan, a stone altar for rites to heaven that is listed as National Folk Heritage. The mountain sits midway along the Baekdudaegan ridge and feeds the Han and Nakdong rivers and Samcheok's Osipcheon; the park also takes in Janggunbong (1,567 m), Munsubong (1,517 m) and its highest point, Hambaeksan (1,572 m). Groves of Korean yew grow near the summit, and azaleas in spring, cool valleys in summer and autumn color lead up to the snow-laden yews of winter.
