Booking
Klook sells a winter train tour to the Taebaeksan Snow Festival that includes a stop at Hwangji Pond.
Local legend tells of a rich man named Hwang who gave a begging monk a scoop of manure instead of alms; the earth shook, and his house sank to become this pond. Today it sits right in the middle of Taebaek and is honored as the source of the Nakdong River, which runs on across the Yeongnam plain. Springs push up about 5,000 tons of water a day, enough that it once fed the town's water supply. The pond is split into upper, middle and lower basins, and it appears on a list of Korea's 100 notable waters.
