Mungyeongsaejae Provincial Park문경새재도립공원

At a glance

Saejae was the highest and hardest pass on the Yeongnam-daero, the Joseon highway between the Han and Nakdong river basins, and after the Imjin War three fortified gates, Juheulgwan, Jogokgwan and Joryeonggwan, were built along it. The old road still passes Wonteo, the site of a travelers' inn, the Gyogwijeong pavilion (rebuilt in 1999) and a stone that warns against forest fires in old Hangeul. Behind the First Gate, a KBS set built in 2000 has hosted historical dramas such as Taejo Wang Geon, and the provincial park, designated in 1981, also has an eco park and an eco maze.
