The late singer Kim Kwang-seok once lived in this corner of Daebong-dong, and since November 2010 the alleys next to Bangcheon Market have been turned into a tribute to him, as part of a project to revive the market. Working with the Jung-gu district office, 11 teams of artists covered a 350 m stretch of wall with his lyrics, murals and sculptures: Kim rolling noodles at a street stall, Kim looking out to sea and more. Cafes and restaurants popular on social media line the lanes, and every autumn a Kim Kwang-seok singing contest is held around the market and Dongseong-ro.
