This five-story pagoda is one of just two stone pagodas surviving from Baekje (the other is at Mireuksa Temple Site in Iksan), and it is a National Treasure. Its builders borrowed from timber architecture: the corner posts swell slightly in the middle like wooden columns, and the thin, broad roof stones lift gently at the corners. After the Tang and Silla armies destroyed Baekje, the Tang general Su Dingfang carved a record of his victory on the first story, and for a time the pagoda was wrongly called the 'pagoda of the conquest of Baekje.' Excavations turned up roof tiles bearing the name Jeongnimsa, which is how the temple site got its name.

Tips
- Buyeo National Museum and Gungnamji Pond are both within about 1 km, so the three make an easy half day on foot.
- Look for the inscription carved around the first story: it was added long after the pagoda was built.
