Buyeo National Museum tells the story of Sabi, Baekje's last capital, and of the wider region. Its permanent galleries cover prehistory, with Bronze and Iron Age finds from South Chungcheong, Baekje history and Baekje Buddhist art, while stone Buddhas and pagodas stand in an outdoor gallery; around 1,000 objects are on show. The present building opened in 1993 and is arranged around an octagonal courtyard inspired by traditional architecture. The collection's roots go back to 1929, when a local society began gathering Baekje relics in an old government guesthouse.
