Cheongdo Eupseong Fortress청도읍성

At a glance

Cheongdo's town wall was rebuilt in stone in 1590, replacing a Goryeo earthwork, at a time when the Dongnae–Hanyang highway ran through its east and west gates. War and colonial-era demolition left little more than stretches of foundation, but restoration since 2005 has brought back about 1.1 km of wall and two gate towers, Gongbungnu to the north and Muhoeru to the west. Local lore says one lap of the walls brings health, two bring long life and three make a wish come true, and a wall-walking event is held every year.
