Booking

Tours from Seoul to the park and its Jogang Observatory can be booked on GetYourGuide and KKday, and KKday also sells a DMZ day tour with an Aegibong route option.

Aegibong stands on Hill 154, the scene of fierce fighting in the Korean War, above the Han River estuary, the only stretch of water on the peninsula that both Koreas may use. The old observatory, put up in 1978, was torn down and replaced with buildings designed by architect Seung H-Sang: a peace and ecology exhibition hall, Jogang Observatory and an eco trail. The park lies north of the Civilian Control Line, so visitor numbers are capped and exit times are strictly kept.

Tips

  • Watch the clock: exit times are enforced because the park is inside the civilian control zone, so plan to be out by closing.
  • On busy days the 500-person cap can mean a wait at the entrance, so an earlier start helps.
