Anua Heartleaf 77 Soothing Toner
The 250 ml Heartleaf 77 Soothing Toner itself, with the same product at all three stores.
What it is
Anua describes the Heartleaf 77 Soothing Toner as a soothing toner formulated with heartleaf extract, designed to calm irritation and moisturize the skin. YesStyle adds that it is infused with 77% houttuynia cordata extract along with panthenol and cica to soothe and protect sensitive skin, and that its mildly acidic pH helps balance the skin's oil and moisture.
Heartleaf is called eoseongcho (어성초) in Korean. Our heartleaf page explains the plant and why it became so popular in Korean toners and pads.
What's in it
The ingredient list starts with Houttuynia Cordata Extract (77%), purified water, 1,2-hexanediol, glycerin, betaine and panthenol, followed by several plant extracts including centella asiatica extract. Our skincare routine guide notes that Anua lists the toner as fragrance-free and that it contains several forms of hyaluronic acid.
How to use it
YesStyle's directions: after cleansing, apply a moderate amount over the face and pat lightly for better absorption. Anua says you can use a cotton pad or your fingertips, and it works morning and night.
It goes right after the cleanser (step 1) and before an ampoule or serum, lotion and, in the morning, sunscreen.
Who it suits & good to know
It is a light, watery step that suits skin that looks red or feels sensitive and anyone who wants a simple toner. The evidence for heartleaf on skin is still early, so think of it as a comfortable hydrating layer rather than a treatment.
Plant-based does not mean allergy-free. Patch-test a new product on a quarter-sized spot twice a day for seven to 10 days, as the AAD advises.
