The War Memorial of Korea opened on June 10, 1994, to preserve the record of the wars fought to defend the country and to honor those who died. About 10,000 of its 33,000 items are on display in six indoor halls, from the Memorial Hall and War History Room to the Korean War, Expeditionary Forces, Armed Forces and Large Equipment rooms, telling Korea's military history from the Three Kingdoms to today. Outside are large weapons from World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, among them a K-1 tank, howitzers, helicopters and transport aircraft, and the corridors on both sides carry the names of about 200,000 Korean and UN soldiers who fell.
