Booking
GetYourGuide sells a 10-hour Buddhist temple day trip from Seoul covering Gaesimsa Temple, the Seosan Rock-carved Buddha Triad and Sudeoksa Temple.
Sudeoksa sits on the southern slope of Mt. Deoksungsan (495 m), near the Deoksan hot springs, and serves as the head temple for the Jogye Order's 7th district, covering the Naepo region of South Chungcheong. Its roots go back to Baekje in the 6th century, and a local legend says a young man built it to win a maiden who vanished as soon as he took her hand: she was the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. The main hall, Daeungjeon, is a National Treasure. The grounds also hold the Geunyeok Seongbogwan museum of Buddhist treasures, the Seon Art Museum, and the thatched house where painter Lee Ungno (1904–1989) once worked, now kept as a historic site with the old Sudeok Inn.
