Booking

GetYourGuide sells a 10-hour Buddhist temple day trip from Seoul covering Gaesimsa Temple, the Seosan Rock-carved Buddha Triad and Sudeoksa Temple.

Gaesimsa, counted among the four major temples of South Chungcheong, traces its founding to 654 under Baekje's King Uija, when the monk Hyegam is said to have built it, and it was restored in 1350 during Goryeo. Only the stone platform of the main hall is thought to survive from Baekje: the hall itself burned in a forest fire in 1475 and was rebuilt in 1484. That Daeungjeon, a designated Treasure, blends two traditional bracket systems, dapo and jusimpo, and is admired for its fine workmanship. Woods and rocky outcrops surround the temple, and around Buddha's Birthday the cherry trees here burst into bloom.
