Hakpo is a site of the Ulleungdo and Dokdo National Geopark and also has relics that record the history of the island's resettlement. The shore is a good place to read how a coast is shaped: bands of agglomerate and tuff, which weather easily, have been cut back into small bays, while tougher trachyte holds out as headlands. Where the waves eat away at the base of columnar joints, the rock above collapses, and over and over this leaves steep sea cliffs. The Hakpo campground is close by if you want to stay longer.
