Dodamsambong Peaks도담삼봉

At a glance

A small pavilion, Samdojeong, perches on the largest of three rock peaks that rise straight out of the Namhangang River. Joseon-era scholars and artists, among them Toegye Yi Hwang and the painter Danwon Kim Hong-do, left poems and paintings of the view. The peaks owe their shape to rock that water dissolves only slowly, so they have outlasted the stone around them over hundreds of millions of years; the site is a national Scenic Site and part of a national geopark. KTO ranks it at the top of Danyang's Eight Scenic Views, and morning river mist or sunrise makes it especially striking.
