Cheongsong Ice Valley청송 얼음골

At a glance

Eoreumgol, 'ice valley', is what Koreans call a place where cold air flows out in summer and warm air in winter. Cheongsong's lies at the foot of a cliff, on a talus slope of piled-up tuff boulders: air sinking through the gaps is chilled and moistened underground and seeps out at the bottom, cooling further as the moisture evaporates, while the north-facing slope gets little sun. The county's geopark team looks after the site.
