Booking

Klook sells a spring cherry-blossom day tour from Seoul that spends about an hour here before the Taean tulip festival; it runs in spring only.

Anmyeonam is a young temple, a branch of Geumsansa of the Jogye Order, but its spot on the shore of Anmyeondo makes it a regular stop on trips to Taean. A floating bridge of planks laid over buoys sways its way out to little Yeouseom (Fox Island); when the tide is out, the walk is less thrilling but you can watch the creatures of the mudflat instead. Back on land, the temple rises in three stories, with the Geungnakbojeon, Birojeon and Nahanjeon halls linked by stairs, and Buddha statues and stone pagodas of many sizes fill the grounds around them.

Tips

  • Check the tide before you go: at high tide the bridge floats on the water, at low tide it rests on the mudflat.
  • Look back at the temple from the bridge or the island; it looks quite different from the sea.
