Maps, Papago and taxi apps all need data. This is a data-only eSIM for all of South Korea that you install before you fly; it comes with no Korean phone number.
What it does
Kakao T (카카오 T) is Kakao Mobility's taxi service in Korea. For visitors the company offers k.ride, an app for global travelers. The official page calls it a taxi service powered by Kakao Mobility and says you can check the estimated fare before calling.
Vehicle options listed are Standard, Comfort (extra space, minivan), Deluxe (experienced driver) and Luxury (sedan for VIPs). Driver chat is translated automatically, and destination search supports 133 languages.
How visitors use it
Language: the app is in English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.
Sign-up: the App Store listing says you sign up by verifying your mobile device or linking a social media account, and two-factor authentication is available. The official page does not describe the steps or say whether a Korean number is needed, so try the sign-up at home before you fly.
Payment: the official page lists credit or debit cards and mobile payment, and the App Store lists Alipay+ wallets, WeChat Pay and PayPal. Payment is taken automatically after the ride using the method you registered, so no cash is needed.
Airport: the App Store listing says airport pickup reservations are available at Incheon Airport Terminals 1 and 2, Gimpo and Jeju.
Good to know
Customer support is in the app menu under Support and is open 9 AM to 2 AM KST on weekdays except public holidays, according to the official page.
App-store reviewers mention trouble with pickup-spot accuracy, Korea's two address systems and advance bookings not being accepted. These are user reviews, and the app changes often. Have your hotel's address in Hangul (한글) ready.
What else you can use
From Incheon Airport you can also take the AREX train into Seoul. See the airport guide below for the options.
