What the album is
‘HOME: DELUXE’ is a repackage — a re-release with extra songs — of ‘HOME’, the first full album from six-member BOYNEXTDOOR (Myung Jaehyun, Sungho, Taesan, Woonhak, Leehan, Riwoo). It came out September 28 at 6 p.m. KST with 14 tracks: the nine songs from ‘HOME’ plus the new ‘ANIMAL’ and ‘CLICHE’, a Korean version of their Japanese song ‘Count To Love’, ‘Boom Boom Boom’ and ‘400 Years’, their first song for fans. Title track ‘ANIMAL’ is the group’s first electro-funk song, comparing pushing past your limits toward a better tomorrow to the way animals move.
Why it matters
It sold 700,028 copies in its first week (through October 5) and topped Hanteo’s weekly album chart — past half a million even though it’s a repackage. In Japan it opened at No. 1 on Oricon’s daily album ranking on its October 2 release, and ‘ANIMAL’ passed 1 million Spotify streams on October 3. On October 8 the song won its first music-show trophy, on Mnet’s M Countdown, with 6,453 points.
Where to listen and watch
The official ‘ANIMAL’ MV, filmed in Daejeon, Paju and Incheon, is on the HYBE LABELS YouTube channel. The group performed the song on Mnet’s M Countdown and SBS’s Inkigayo. Stage points: member Riwoo choreographed the dance — his first choreography credit — and the chorus uses real ad-libs from crowds at their live shows. Their tour ‘KNOCK ON Vol.2’ was set to open October 10–11 at LaLa Arena Tokyo Bay in Chiba, Japan.
