How to buy K-pop albums in the US (and what counts on charts)

Amazon, Weverse Shop and Ktown4u all sell K-pop albums to U.S. fans. Here's how versions, random photocards and pre-order gifts work, and what Hanteo, Circle and Billboard say they count.

The short answer

If you live in the U.S. and want the simplest order, buy on Amazon from a listing that Amazon.com sells and ships. You get U.S. delivery and a 30-day refund or replacement window. If you want a version or gift that only a Korean store offers, order from Weverse Shop or Ktown4u. Ktown4u ships from Korea, and Weverse Shop sends orders outside Korea by international carrier. Weverse Shop works out shipping by product, quantity and destination, so check the fee at checkout.

If chart counts matter to you, read the last two sections before you buy. Hanteo, Circle and Billboard each count sales in a different way.

Release dates can differ by store, too. Ktown4u lists ILLIT's BREAK EVEN for October 26, 2026, the Korean date, while Amazon lists its U.S. release for October 30, 2026.

  1. 1Best for U.S. shipping and 30-day returns

Amazon: K-pop albums sold by Amazon.com

Amazon.com itself sells and ships some K-pop albums, including all four Amazon versions of ILLIT's BREAK EVEN, and those listings show a 30-day refund or replacement window. Check that the listing names Amazon.com as seller and shipper. U.S. release dates can differ from Korean ones: Amazon lists BREAK EVEN for October 30, 2026.

  2. 2Best for ILLIT fans: an Amazon-only photocard

ILLIT 'BREAK EVEN', Amazon Exclusive versions

The standard album comes in QUIET, MAD and BURNING versions. Amazon lists each with a photobook, folded poster, die-cut sticker, CD-R, a version photocard (1 of 4) and a unit photocard. Amazon's Exclusive versions add an exclusive photocard (1 of 4). Pre-orders are open now, and a Photo Dump version is listed separately.

Album versions and random photocards

A single K-pop release can come in several versions with different covers, photobooks and inclusions. ILLIT's BREAK EVEN, for example, has three variants, Standard, Compact and Photo Dump, and the Standard comes in QUIET, MAD and BURNING versions, according to Amazon's listing.

Photocards are usually random. Amazon describes each Standard version as holding one version photocard out of four, plus a unit photocard, while the Photo Dump version has three photocards, each one of four. When a store sells a 'Random Ver.', you get one version picked at random. Ktown4u notes that the random parts of the ILLIT album are packed with equal odds. If you want a specific cover, buy a named version instead.

  • Standard (QUIET, MAD, BURNING), per Amazon: photobook, poster, sticker, CD-R and photocards.
  • Photo Dump, per Amazon: a smaller sleeve-box version with a photobook, a mini CD-R and three photocards.
  • Random Ver.: one version chosen at random, so you can't pick the cover.

Pre-order benefits and store exclusives

A pre-order benefit, or POB, is an extra that a store gives with orders placed in a set window. Store exclusives work in a similar way: Amazon's Exclusive versions of BREAK EVEN add an Amazon-only photocard (1 of 4).

Weverse Shop calls these 'special gifts' and 'first edition-exclusive special gifts'. Its help pages say they are made in limited numbers, won't be sent again if you exchange an album, and must be sent back with the album if you want a refund. Cancelling and re-ordering can also cost you a gift that was only offered for a set period. Pre-orders ship on the start date shown on the product page, and Weverse Shop won't ship items with different start dates in one package. Even products on a single pre-order page can have different start dates, so check each item's date on the product page or notice before you add it to your cart.

What Hanteo and Circle count

Hanteo Chart is built on real-time sales and says it is directly synced with more than 1,500 record stores worldwide. Stores in its network are 'certified family' stores, and online ones show the Hanteo family symbol in their footer. As of October 2026 its family list includes Weverse and Ktown4u. Amazon isn't on the list.

Circle Chart runs two album charts. The main Album Chart ranks albums by distribution volume, meaning shipments minus returns, while the Retail Album Chart counts sales of physical albums at retail stores. Both cover formats from tapes, LPs and CDs to KiT and platform albums. Circle's chart pages don't list which overseas stores feed the retail chart, so check with the store if that matters to you.

What Billboard counts

Billboard's album charts use sales data compiled by Luminate from retailers that make up more than 90% of the U.S. music retail market. That includes internet sales of physical albums and direct-to-consumer stores. The Billboard 200 blends those album sales with track-equivalent and streaming-equivalent albums, and the chart week generally runs Friday to Thursday.

Billboard also announced two rules in 2020 that affect album buying. A physical album sold with an instant download is counted only when the physical item ships, not when you order. And albums bundled with merch or concert tickets count only when the album is a separate add-on in the cart.

FAQ

Which K-pop album purchases count toward Billboard?

Billboard's album charts use U.S. sales compiled by Luminate from retailers covering more than 90% of the U.S. music retail market, including online sales of physical albums. Billboard doesn't publish a list of stores, and since 2020 it counts a physical album sold with an instant download only when the album ships.

Does buying on Amazon count for Hanteo?

Hanteo counts sales from its certified family stores. As of October 2026, Weverse and Ktown4u are on its family list and Amazon is not. Online family stores show the Hanteo family symbol in their footer.

What does POB mean in K-pop?

POB stands for pre-order benefit: an extra, such as a photocard, that a store gives with orders placed during a set period. Weverse Shop calls them special gifts, and they're limited, so cancelling and re-ordering can mean missing out.

Can I choose which photocard I get?

Not in the albums we checked. Amazon lists each BREAK EVEN photocard as one of four, and Ktown4u says the random items in the album come with equal odds. You can choose the album version, but not the member on the card.

Can I return a K-pop album?

It depends on the store. Amazon shows a 30-day refund or replacement window on the ILLIT listings. Ktown4u takes requests within 14 days but not for opened CDs. Weverse Shop needs any special gifts sent back for a refund, and Olive Young US treats K-pop albums as final sale.
