Olive Young calls the category dermo-cosmetics: it began as gentle care for sensitive skin and weak skin barriers, and has grown into everyday skincare. Shelves mix European pharmacy brands such as Avène, La Roche-Posay and Bioderma with Korean pharma- or clinic-based brands like AESTURA and Zeroid. This year Olive Young also began building an "Advanced Derma" category with six Korean pharmaceutical companies.

On Aug 31, Olive Young said foreign shoppers' spending on K-dermo skincare rose about 78% in January–August from a year earlier, well above the 47% rise in its total sales to foreigners. Its newsroom adds that derma sales have grown about 24% a year on average since 2020, and that Q1 2026 sales were up 205% from 2020.

K-derma is a style rather than a single product, so it slots into your usual steps: cleanser, toner, serum, cream. If your skin is sensitive, the AAD suggests trying each new product on a small patch of skin for 7–10 days first.

Don't choose by the word "derma" alone. Korean business weekly Economist notes that "derma cosmetics" is a commercial term with no legal standard, so in law these are ordinary cosmetics. Products that claim one of 11 effects set by Korea's food and drug ministry, such as brightening, wrinkle care, UV protection or barrier recovery, must be reviewed or reported as "functional cosmetics," so check for that wording and read the ingredient list.
