Where to stay in Busan: Haeundae, Gwangalli, Seomyeon or Nampo?
Busan's main areas are far enough apart that your base shapes the trip. Here's how Haeundae, Gwangalli, Seomyeon, Nampo and the Busan Station area compare, how each links to Gimhae Airport and the KTX, and a stay to look at in each.

The short answer
For a first trip, stay in Haeundae: the beach, Blueline Park, BUSAN X the SKY and plenty of hotels are all in one walkable stretch. Pick Gwangalli for the lit-up Gwangandaegyo Bridge, cafés and the Saturday drone show, and Seomyeon if you want the city's biggest shopping area and the subway junction of Lines 1 and 2. Choose Nampo for Jagalchi, the old markets and Gamcheon, and the Busan Station area only for a late arrival or an early KTX.
From Gimhae Airport, the light rail connects to Line 2 at Sasang and Line 3 at Daejeo, and airport limousines run to Seomyeon and to Haeundae. Express bus 1003 links Busan Station, Nampo and Jagalchi with Haeundae, so moving between areas is easy.

Haeundae: the beach base
Haeundae Beach is 1.5 km of sand between the wooded Dongbaekseom headland and the small harbor of Mipo, backed by hotels and towers. Haeundae Station (Line 2) Exit 5 is about 8 minutes from the sand. From Mipo, Blueline Park's Beach Train and Sky Capsules run along the old coastal railway, and BUSAN X the SKY sits on floors 98–100 of the LCT Landmark Tower at the east end of the beach. Haeundae Market, about 5 minutes from Exit 3, is the street-food stop, and Nurimaru APEC House on Dongbaekseom is free to visit.
From the airport, the limousine to Haeundae and Gijang stops at Park Hyatt Busan, Dongbaekseom Entrance and Haeundae Beach; it boards at Platform 3 on the 1st floor and takes credit cards only. City bus 307 also goes there, but city buses limit luggage to under 20 kg and 50 × 40 × 20 cm, so take the limousine, subway or a taxi with big suitcases.
Gwangalli: the bridge at night
Gwangalli is a crescent-shaped beach with fine sand and night views of the lit-up Gwangandaegyo Bridge, lined with restaurants, cafés and raw-fish markets. It's about 12 minutes on foot from Gwangan Station (Line 2) Exit 3 or 5.
Every Saturday the Gwangalli M Drone Light Show plays over the beach, at 19:00 and 21:00 from October to February, each show lasting about 10 minutes. The 21st Busan Fireworks Festival is on Saturday, November 7, 2026, around Gwangalli Beach, Igidae and Dongbaekseom, so book a room early if you're coming that weekend.
Seomyeon: shopping and the subway hub
Visit Busan calls Seomyeon the city's largest downtown and its shopping mecca, with streets of shops, restaurants and cafés around Seomyeon Station, where Lines 1 and 2 cross; Samjung Tower alone packs restaurants, cafés and a cinema into 16 floors. That junction is the practical draw: Line 2 runs east to Gwangalli and Haeundae, and Line 1 runs south to Busan Station, Nampo and Jagalchi.
From the airport, ride the light rail to Sasang and change to Line 2, or take the airport limousine to Seomyeon and Bujeon, which stops at Seomyeon Station by Lotte Hotel and Lotte Department Store.
Nampo and Busan Station: markets, the old port and the KTX
Nampo-dong is Busan's old downtown by the port. Jagalchi Market is 3–6 minutes on foot from Jagalchi Station (Line 1) Exit 10 or Nampo Station Exit 2, and BIFF Square's food carts, Gukje Market and the Bupyeong Kkangtong night market (19:30–24:00) are a short walk away. Gwangbok-ro Fashion Street is 5 minutes from Nampo Station Exit 3, and Gamcheon Culture Village is a village-bus ride from Jagalchi Station Exit 1.
Busan Station, about 10 minutes up Line 1 from Jagalchi, is where the KTX arrives. Across the road from the station, Choryang Ibagu-gil starts 2 minutes from Exit 7, and Shanghai Street, Korea's only designated Chinatown Special Zone, is in the same Choryang-dong area. The station has lockers on the 1st and 2nd floors and a staffed luggage counter on the 1st floor (09:00–22:00), handy before a late train.
FAQ
Is it better to stay in Haeundae or Seomyeon?
Haeundae if the beach, Blueline Park and the sea views are the point of your trip. Seomyeon if you'd rather be in the middle of the city, with the biggest shopping area and both main subway lines at one station, so Nampo and Busan Station are as easy to reach as the beaches.
How do I get from Gimhae Airport to Haeundae?
The simplest way with luggage is the airport limousine to Haeundae and Gijang, which leaves from Platform 3 on the 1st floor about every hour between 07:10 and 21:40 and stops at Haeundae Beach; it takes credit cards only. By rail, ride the light rail to Sasang and change to Line 2. City bus 307 also goes to the beach if your bags are small. The airport says timetables can change, so check before you fly.
Where should I stay in Busan for one night before or after the KTX?
Near Busan Station. Hotels such as Toyoko Inn Busan Station No.1 are a minute or two from the KTX platforms and Line 1, and Nampo and Jagalchi are about 10 minutes away on Line 1 for dinner at the market.
When do Busan hotels get busy in autumn 2026?
Around the 21st Busan Fireworks Festival on Saturday, November 7, 2026, which is centered on Gwangalli Beach, Igidae and Dongbaekseom. If you want a room with a bridge view that weekend, book as early as you can.
