Pick by taste first

Korean chips run from sweet to fishy, so it helps to decide what you're in the mood for. Banana Kick is the sweet one, a corn puff that tastes of banana. Cuttlefish Snack and Tako Chips are the savory seafood pair, made with real squid and fish. Gosomi and Ace are crackers, the kind you eat with coffee or tea. The seaweed picks run from paper-thin roasted sheets to a crunchy, layered corn chip with a seaweed seasoning.

Snacks are part of gaming culture in Korea too. In PC bang, the gaming rooms where friends play for hours, the JoongAng Daily notes that players often make small bets and the loser buys the winner a snack.

If you're shopping for a group, one sweet, one seafood and one seaweed pack cover most tastes. The Nongshim bags are large and resealable, so they last through a movie night or two. The crackers come in smaller portions: Gosomi in 35 g bags, two to a box, which makes them easy to tuck into a lunch bag or a desk drawer.

If you want a snack you can hand out, the bibigo seaweed snack comes as twelve small packs. Seaweed is also the lightest option here, so it suits people who don't want a heavy chip.

Corn puffs and seafood chips from Nongshim

Banana Kick is the oldest snack here: Nongshim's Korean site dates it to May 1978. Nongshim USA describes a light, crispy corn snack in a banana shape, and the US label lists yellow corn flour, sugar and banana powder near the top. Nongshim also sells Melon Kick in the US if you want a different fruit.

The two seafood snacks are the ones to try if you like savory and a little fishy. Cuttlefish Snack, sold in Korea as Ojingeojip since 1985, is shaped like a squid and lists minced squid, butter and cream, so it tastes buttery as well as salty. Tako Chips, sold in Korea as Jagalchi since 1983, are octopus-shaped and made from a blend of fish and flour; the label lists minced corvina, fish paste, and powdered octopus and shrimp.

Crackers for coffee: Gosomi and Ace

Gosomi is Orion's nutty cracker, topped with sesame for a sweet and savory bite. Orion's Korean page lists the same two-bag box, 70 g in all, with a 12-month shelf life, so a box keeps well.

Ace is Haitai's cracker line, and Haitai's site calls it the very name for crackers in Korea. Our pick is the original in a box of 15 small packs, six crackers each. It's light and flaky and only lightly sweet, and the box itself says to enjoy it with coffee.

Seaweed snacks: roasted gim and a seaweed chip

Roasted seaweed snacks are thin sheets of gim, brushed with oil, salted and toasted. bibigo's sea salt version keeps the list short: seaweed, sunflower oil, sea salt and rosemary extract. Eat them straight from the pack, or wrap a sheet around a spoonful of rice.

Turtle Chips are crunchier. Orion builds each corn chip from four layers, and the seaweed flavor adds a seasoning with laver powder and kelp extract, so you get a chip with a gim taste. The seasoning includes soy sauce powder and the bag says it contains wheat, so it is not the one to pick for a gluten-free diet. For the plain sheets you need to roll gimbap, see our pantry guide.

Three favorites we couldn't link

We also looked for Nongshim Onion Rings, Orion Poca Chip and Lotte Kokal Kon, the bugle-shaped corn snack sold in Korea as Kkokkalcorn. We couldn't find any of them on Amazon with a listing we could confirm as of October 2026, so they're left out for now. If you see them in a Korean grocery, they're worth a try.

FAQ

Are Korean seafood chips made with real seafood?

The two in our picks are. Nongshim's Cuttlefish Snack lists minced squid and squid extract, and Tako Chips list minced corvina, fish paste and powdered octopus and shrimp. Skip them if you avoid fish or shellfish.

Is Banana Kick made with real banana?

The US label lists banana powder, along with yellow corn flour and sugar, plus artificial flavors. It also contains milk, eggs and soy.

Are Korean seaweed snacks gluten-free?

Plain roasted ones often are. The bibigo Sea Salt listing is marked gluten-free and lists only seaweed, oil, salt and rosemary extract. Seaweed-flavored chips can contain wheat: the Turtle Chips seasoning includes soy sauce powder and the bag says it contains wheat, so check each label.

What are Turtle Chips?

They're Orion's corn chips, sold in Korea as Kkobuk Chip and built from four layers for extra crunch. The seaweed flavor adds a seasoning with laver powder and kelp extract, and each bag is 5.65 oz (160 g).
