May–Oct: open 09:00–18:00, with entry to the forest trail 09:00–15:00. Nov–Mar: open 09:00–17:00, entry 09:00–14:00. KTO doesn't list April hours.
Closed
Mondays and Tuesdays, except when they fall on a public holiday. Entry can be closed in extreme weather, so call before you go.
Time to spend
The walk in from the information center takes about 1 hour (Wondae road) or 80 minutes (Wonjeong road). The most popular loop, Course 1 (Birch course), is about 0.9 km and takes around 50 minutes.
Booking
Klook and KKday sell winter day tours from Seoul that combine the snowy birch forest with the Maebawi ice wall; KKday's adds Seoraksan.
Rows of birches over 20 years old crowd the slopes here, their white trunks gleaming as if dusted with snow; in winter, with real snow on the ground, it's a popular photo spot. Getting there takes some effort: from the information center you walk in along a forest road, about an hour on the Wondae road or 80 minutes on the Wonjeong road. Inside, seven trails range in length and difficulty, with a forest classroom, an observatory, an ecological pond, wooden bridges and stairs, and a children's forest play area. The forest, also called the 'Whispering Birch Forest', was planted between 1974 and 1995: 690,000 trees on 138 ha.

- Mind the entry cutoff: 15:00 in summer and 14:00 in winter, and the walk in alone takes about an hour.
