Booking

KKday sells an eastern Jeju day tour that includes a folk village, and Klook has a 9-hour private car charter with Seongeup Folk Village among its stops.

Seongeup, about 8 km north of Pyoseon at the foot of Hallasan, was the seat of Jeongui-hyeon, one of the three districts that governed Jeju from 1410 to 1914. Today it is a protected folk village where residents still live in traditional thatched houses behind stone walls, and you can still see a tongsi, the traditional Jeju toilet. Walk its lanes to find the old Confucian school and government office, dol hareubang statues, an old millstone, sections of the fortress wall and ancient zelkova and hackberry trees listed as natural monuments. Folk songs, local food, crafts and the Jeju dialect are still handed down here.
