Banwoldo and Bakjido, sold to visitors as Purple Island, are two small islands off Anjwado in Sinan County. Wooden footbridges over the sea, together called the Purple Bridge and about 1.5 km long, run from Anjwado to Bakjido and on to Banwoldo, forming a V when seen from above, so one walk takes in three islands. Banwoldo is named for its half-moon outline and rises to the 210 m Eokkaesan, 'shoulder mountain'; Bakjido is said to take its name from the Park family who first settled there. Coastal paths circle both islands, bikes can be rented, and at low tide the islands are ringed by mudflats rather than sand beaches. The province's 'islands you want to visit' program put them on the map.
