Day tours from Busan that stop at Maemiseong on the way to Windy Hill and Oedo Island are on Klook, GetYourGuide and KKday (on KKday, Maemiseong is one of two route options).

In 2003 Typhoon Maemi washed away a local farmer's fields on the Geoje coast. To protect what was left from the next storm, he began stacking squared stones by the shore, one at a time, filling the gaps with cement and working alone over many years. The result, named after the typhoon, is far more than a sea wall: its stonework looks like something out of medieval Europe. Today it is one of Geoje's popular sights, and almost every corner works as a photo spot.

Tips

  • If you're on the KKday Geoje tour, pick the route with Maemiseong and Okgye village; the other option swaps them for a cable car.
  • On the GetYourGuide tour the Maemiseong stop is about 20 minutes, so have your camera ready.
