Booking
Klook and KKday sell seasonal October tours from Busan built around the Namgang Yudeung lantern festival held around the fortress.
Jinjuseong guards a bend in the Namgang River. Its stone walls, about 1.76 km around and 5–8 m high, were rebuilt in 1379 to hold off Japanese raiders, and during the Imjin War they saw two famous sieges. In 1592 some 3,800 defenders turned back a Japanese army of nearly 20,000, protecting the rice lands of Honam; in 1593 the fortress fell after an 11-day battle in which its tens of thousands of soldiers and townspeople died. It was then, the story goes, that Nongae clasped a Japanese commander and leapt with him into the river. Inside the walls are Chokseongnu Pavilion, the Uigisa shrine, command posts, Hoguksa Temple and Jinju National Museum.
