Korean Made Easy for Beginners, 2nd Edition (Darakwon)
A self-study book with 20 everyday-topic lessons, free MP3 audio for its 40 dialogues, and a small Key Phrase Book of 40 practical expressions.
What it means
이거 (igeo) means “this,” and 얼마예요? (eolmayeyo?) means “How much is it?” Talk To Me In Korean's essential-phrases list includes 얼마예요? on its own, so you can drop 이거 if you are already pointing.
When to use it
Use it at markets, small shops and stalls where prices are not always on a tag. Point at the item, say the phrase, and listen for the number. Learning the Korean numbers (the Talk To Me In Korean Level 1 book covers two number systems) helps you understand the answer.
Get the attention first
To call staff, the same list teaches 저기요! (jeogiyo!), “Excuse me!” A natural order is: 저기요 → 이거 얼마예요?
