What it's about
Park Sae-ro-yi's father dies in an accident caused by Jang Geun-won, the son of the head of Jangga Group, a food company. Sae-ro-yi hits back, goes to prison, and after his release opens DanBam, a small bar-restaurant in Itaewon, with a long-term plan to beat Jangga.
The webtoon's creator Gwang Jin also wrote the drama, directed by Kim Seong-yoon.
Why people love it
It started around 5% and passed 10% by episode 5. The finale hit 16.5% nationwide (Nielsen Korea), its best, and the second-highest JTBC rating at the time after SKY Castle.
Sae-ro-yi's stubborn, never-bow attitude and the team of misfits he gathers at DanBam made it a story about starting over.
Where to watch & good to know
It's on Netflix in many countries; check your region. All 16 episodes are out.
In Seoul, the Noksapyeong pedestrian overpass with its view of N Seoul Tower is where the characters often stop to talk (Line 6, Noksapyeong Station Exit 1). At home, try sundubu-jjigae, DanBam's signature stew.
